3 Reasons Why Stallone’s ‘CREED’ Might Actually be Good

Everybody loves a good Rocky film. However there have been several not-so-good Rocky films. Most of them actually. Here are three big reasons why the new Rocky film CREED might be worth watching.

Sylvester Stallone and Michael Jordan

1. Sylvester Stallone did NOT write it nor is he directing it.

Already excited huh? That’s actually reason enough to watch it.  Listen, the Rocky and First Blood screenplays, in their time, they did pretty well. But let’s face it, the Expendable storylines are putting my 8-year-old with ADHD to sleep and wasting America’s precious time when we could be hunting down ISIS instead.

2. It’s written and will be directed by Ryan Cogler

Who is known for the acclaimed indie Fruitvale Station. The film won over 100 awards from 2013 to present. This dude cleaned up. There were no fancy camera shots, heavy color grade  or CG, just good old-fashioned story!

“Rocky is an incredibly human story, and ‘Creed’ is very inspired by the Rocky lore, but there’s something kind of profound in letting it all go. ” (Ryan Cogler)

3. Lastly, it stars Michael B. Jordan.

This young man is on the rise. We watched him wow the audience in TV shows like HBO’s The Wire, NBC’s Friday Night Lights and NBC’s Parenthood before he jumped over to the big screen. He’s shown us his acting chops in movies like Chronicle, Fruitvale Station and That Awkward Moment. I’m excited to watch him as the Human Torch in the new Fantastic Four this Summer.

This will be the second time Ryan Cogler and Michael B. Jordan team up following their success of Fruitvale Station.

There you have it. Three darn good reasons this film has a chance despite the previous Rocky failures.
