Look. Let’s face it. Tarantino killed it with classics like Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Inglorious Bastards, Kill Bill and Django Unchained, but last year, during a very public temper tantrum, writer-director Quentin Tarantino shelved the buzzing western drama, ‘The Hateful Eight‘ after the film’s script mysteriously leaked to the web. Dagnabbit!
But it’s back, from outer space, with a strong cast including Kurt Russell, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Channing Ta… (strike that) and… you guessed it, Samuel L. Jackson. Tarantino’s ‘Inglourious Basterds’ and ‘Django Unchained’ were big hits with the Academy. If his vision comes to life, this cast is sure to gain him strong results as well.
You don’t have to be the one that takes the lights and moves them around to create an effect. Your job is explain your vision. Your job as the director is articulating to them what you want on the screen. – Quentin Tarantino, The Charlie Rose Show
If Tarantino is on his A game and gunning for film gold again, this film promises to:
1. Take us on a journey we’ve never been on before.
2. Stick out like a turd in a fruit salad.
Our prediction: This slow burning explosive Western is going to impress. Not to mention viewers can experience the film in glorious 70mm anamorphic presentation in 50 cities. Tarantino and DoP, Robert Richardson shot the film on Kodak 65mm with a set of Ultra Panavision 70 anamorphic lenses that haven’t been used since 1966.
